2 Smart
"2Smart” is a roadshow which tours Essex theatres each year delivering a range of thought provoking messages about drugs, alcohol, knives, bullying and staying safe.
The London Bus Theatre Company will be performing four new drama scenes.
The first scene is about cyber bullying and internet safety. Set in a classroom, it destroys the myth that all text messages cannot be traced to the shock of tearaway Jason who thinks it might be funny to bully another lad in his class by posting an embarrassing image of him on the internet.
The second scene is a spoof on X factor. Pop star wannabe Charlotte uses alcohol to calm her nerves before the audition but Louis, Danni and Simon point out that it’s ruining her image, given her a criminal record, and caused her to become pregnant. We discover that you cannot go to America with a criminal record so Simon is not interested in Charlotte because the big music money is in the USA. The third scene is based around the computer game “Steroid City”. The characters in the game up on the screen are the actors on the stage. Poor Deano playing the game finds out the hard way that steroids are a seriously bad idea. By the time the game is over Deano has learnt his lesson and won’t go near steroids ever again. The final scene is set outside a night club where Jason and his girlfriend Chelsea are caught in an embrace. Ironically by the end of the scene it’s Chelsea who ends up stabbing Jason with his own knife. As so often is the case it’s the person carrying the knife who ends up getting injured.
Thousands of young people across Essex have watched the 2SMART roadshow.
Supt Ewen Wilson and Jo van Zanten, youth development coordinator, talk about the importance of 2SMART and the messages it gives to young people.
